Volleyball is my favorite sport.

I always wanted to connect my life with sports. In elementary school, during gym class we practiced with older students, and I saw that all of them were involved in football, martial arts, and athletics. But the main thing for me was the example of my uncle, who, even before I was born, was a national prize-winner in swimming. I always admired his sports achievements and decided to follow in his footsteps. I understand that being a sportsman today is not so prestigious, because the public knows only the most outstanding athletes. Of course, I would like to win a gold medal, but I am not that interested in money and fame. I am simply guided by my uncle's example and want to continue the tradition of our family.

My hometown is not on the coast, but we do have swimming pools. The closest one, by the way, is a 15 minute walk from my house. There are a lot of sports clubs in the town, you can even go in for fencing. But I prefer team sports, when winning a game is achieved by joint effort. So I chose between football and volleyball. Maybe football is really more spectacular and popular, but in my opinion volleyball is much more dynamic. In a football game, you can play 90 minutes and not score a single goal, whereas in volleyball, goals are scored every minute. It is a game that keeps the whole team in a state of high tension, whereas in football, for example, goalkeepers and fullbacks can relax when their team is attacking the other side's goal.

That's why in elementary school I started attending volleyball trainings. My coach immediately noticed my abilities and advised me not to quit. If at first I had my doubts, later I just fell in love with volleyball. It's been eight years now that I've been playing. I have five trainings a week, so sometimes it's hard, especially when I feel like I don't have time to rest and recover. But the effort is worth it. Last year was the first time our team reached the finals of a regional tournament. Even though we lost in the final match, I think our team has only gotten stronger. We learned from our mistakes and are now preparing for this year's tournament. This time we want to win the final, and I am sure that we will achieve this.

I often think about what is most important to win. Some people say that the most important thing is hard work. If you believe them, the team that has practiced the longest always wins the match. But that is not always the case. Sometimes a tournament can be won by a team made up of not the most experienced players. Others argue that sportsmanship is necessary first and foremost. This is hard to argue with, but it also happens that more talented players lose because of mistakes. Others believe that everything is determined by the work of the coach. I won't disagree, I'll just say what I think. The most important thing to win is the unity of the team. If the team acts as one, then good luck comes too. In this case, even a weak team can win.

But the role of the coach should not be underestimated. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the team better than anyone. In addition, during the game he analyzes the opponent's strategy and gives us valuable advice. Our coach never told us that we are weak and therefore will lose. But he did not give false hopes either, because he never thought we were capable of doing the impossible. He adopted an intelligent and balanced approach and fostered in us the same spirit of unity that I mentioned earlier. He always said, “You can win if you make efforts”.

My parents are excited about my success in sports, but at the same time they are anxious. They know that an athlete's career ends at the age of 35, because at that age the body is no longer able to withstand great exertion. And my parents ask me what I'm going to do next. I understand that I will not be able to become an engineer or a doctor, because it takes a long time to study. It's unlikely that at the age of 35 I will be able to go to university and start professional training. I think I could become a volleyball coach after I finish my sports career. But to be honest, I don't think about it, it won't happen any time soon. But I'm sure I'll find my way.

Volleyball for me is a continuation of the family tradition, but not only. I have ambitions and a desire to get a gold medal to please my uncle, but the main thing is still different. When I do sports, I feel a rush of energy. Everyone knows that sports bring positive emotions and improves health, and I feel it myself. Actually, I can’t sit still for a long time without movement. So, if I lived on the coast, I would probably swim on the days when I do not have volleyball trainings.
