Presenter. Hello, dear listeners! Today on our program “Pushing the Boundaries” we have invited the famous traveler and mountaineer Ben Mitchell. Hello, Ben! Ben Mitchell. Hello! Thank you for having me. Presenter. Your face is on the cover of glossy magazines. You have crossed turbulent rivers by swimming, crossed seas on sailing boats, traveled across scorching deserts and the public has always followed your achievements with delight. What was the last feat you accomplished? Ben Mitchell. I wouldn't call it a feat because a lot of people have done it before me. I was just interested in testing myself and proving that I could set myself increasingly difficult challenges. Anyway, after a few months of intensive training, I climbed Everest. Presenter. Everyone knows that not every professional mountaineer can climb Everest. How did you prepare for the ascent? Ben Mitchell. The most important part of preparation is to spend some time at a certain altitude. The body has to get used to the thin air. If you stay in normal conditions all the time and then suddenly go up high, your body may not be able to cope. And, of course, you need to be in good physical shape. Presenter. Was your ascent to Everest difficult? Ben Mitchell. I definitely can't call it easy. Once I almost fell off the mountainside and only by a miracle I held on. Presenter. You were scared, weren’t you? Ben Michell. Perhaps, but I learned to control my fear. Thanks to the risk, on the contrary, I feel a surge of energy and strength. But I don't seek danger on purpose. When traveling and climbing mountains, you can't be reckless. That is why I carefully prepare for my expeditions and carefully check my equipment. Presenter. It seems that there is no place on the globe that you have not visited. What is your most memorable trip? Ben Mitchell. I haven't had a trip that I haven't enjoyed. Every trek or expedition gives me new experiences and new knowledge. In Africa I walked for weeks under the scorching sun, in the Pacific I fought the waves, on Everest I looked at the world from a great height. It's all part of me now. Every journey is valuable to me. Presenter. How did you become interested in traveling? Ben Mitchell. I think it all started in my early childhood. I used to watch a lot of documentaries about distant countries. And when I was six years old, my father started taking me on mountain hikes, even though he wasn't a professional traveler. I warmly remember our nights around the campfire, the tracks of animals on the ground, the dark starry sky. You can't see the stars in the city. Since then, I have always been drawn to nature. As a teenager, I have already disappeared for weeks in the mountains. Presenter. What advice would you give to your fans who would also like to travel? Ben Mitchell. First of all, don't get discouraged after a setback. If you fall down, you need to get up and keep going. Also, you should always set yourself new challenges. A lot of people are afraid to go hiking for fear that they might fail. You don't have to think that way! Once we climbed a mountain of 1,500 meters high, and in my team there was a man with a prosthetic leg. Fear of failure is just an excuse. You always need to have a winning attitude, and then we will always win. But of course, it is not about winning over nature. I do not consider my ascent to Everest as a conquest of nature. It is about victory over yourself, overcoming your weaknesses. Presenter. Your fans often ask, when will Ben Mitchell start his video blog? Ben Mitchell. I've been thinking about it, but I haven't made a decision yet. It seems to me that video reports contain a kind of deception. A viewer can watch a video report and think he's been there. I believe that everything should be seen with your own eyes. However, some of my expeditions had videographers, so there are already video reports about my trips. I have no objection to it, but I have no desire to keep a video blog yet. Presenter. What are your next plans? Ben Mitchell. I haven't decided yet, but I have an idea to go north. It's just a thought for now, so I won't say anything specific. Presenter. I thank you for taking the time to join us. Ben Mitchell. Thank you for having me! I'd be happy to come again.
